Content is an essential part of legal marketing, and without it you may as well not have a law firm marketing plan. But producing content requires hard work, and you should make the most of the writing you manage to produce. Following are several ideas to help you use two of the most reliably produced types of legal marketing content as effectively as you can.
Law Firm Marketing – Written material (blogs, email alerts, brochures, guides, information sheets)
If you’ve written any worthwhile, interesting material of any of the types above, don’t just send it off once or print it and leave it to stagnate in your reception area. You can distribute that content as widely as possible. For each item of written material you produce, consider:
- Have I distributed it to as many, relevant, clients as I can?
- Is it loaded onto my website?
- Have I sent it directly to referrers, associates and other professionals?
- Have I linked to it with a post on Facebook and a tweet on Twitter?
- Has it been sent to media contacts?
- Is everyone in my company aware of it and can they explain it further if a client has queries about it?
- Can I turn it into a different kind of content and distribute in a different form?
Law Firm Marketing – Presentations
Presentations are generally created with a specific audience in mind, or because of a particular request. Therefore they are often presented only once then left to become stale. The large amount of time involved in preparing them gets only a one time showing. To get far more benefit from your presentation consider:
- Who else could I show it to?
- How could I let the most people know about it?
- Have I mentioned it on my website, Facebook, Twitter, and offered to present it to others?
- Can I send the presentation in hard copy to people who were unable to attend the seminar?
- Could I record an audio or video of the presentation and distribute it electronically online or directly?
- Is it viable to write an article or blog discussing questions that arose from the presentation?
- Have I followed up with additional content to all the people that were at the presentation?
While some of these suggestions might feel like more work at a time when you’ve possibly damaged your monthly billings with the amount of time you spent preparing the first lot of material, it’s crucial to consider that it is far easier to add a small amount of time at the end to really maximise on what you’ve already produced than it is to produced a whole new piece of legal marketing material.
