Worthing-West Sussex As A Travel Destination
Worthing-West Sussex is a place to consider if you are going on vacation. It is an important but unassuming town–technically a borough–in south east England. It is about an hour from London and only a few minutes from Brighton. The history there, as with much of English history, is very rich. People have lived in Worthing for thousands of years, as proved by the vast amount of flint mines there.
As many seaside towns were, it was in an important military position for Romans and Celts. Historians can delight in the Iron Age fort in Worthing. For a great deal of its history, it was surprisingly modest for a borough. The residents mostly dealt in fishing. In recent centuries it became far more important.
When people discovered the benefits of going to spas and resorts (in the eighteenth century), this area became a fashionable spot for the wealthy. It was a good vacation town with ‘healthy waters’ to relax in. Many structures were built for the benefit of the elegant guests. They still stand today, though the economy has moved on to bigger fish than tourists.
After Worthing adapted to tourist life, they moved slightly toward the marketing world and expanded their range of commerce to be a great market town. They went a step further years later and were known world-wide for their influence over gardening. In modern day, it is big in the financial service world. It also has held on to the artistic roots that have sprinkled the history of the town.
Oscar Wilde spent a great deal of time there. Worthing was where he wrote his most famous play, “The Importance of Being Ernest.” So much was he influenced that he even named his protagonist after the town. Harold Pinter is another acknowledged celebrity there. The area has three theatres and many areas of note and modernity for their times.
Because of these advances, the town has a great deal of visitors and people wishing to move there. Due to this large popularity, it has received a great deal of different types of people, dividing the city into districts. The diversity–especially the religious diversity–is good for the continuing advancement of the town, though it seems to be a fairly quiet city in terms of politics.
The great thing about the city is the stable economy. Everyone needs financial services and medical factories, which are the two greatest components of the Worthing work force. This has ensured that they have good schools, good transportation and an over-all good quality of life. Many young people like the town for a far different reason: it is one of the few places in Great Britain to have legal marijuana cafes.
