2010 March 2

The Melbourne Convention Centre is the largest convention center in the Southern part of the globe. It is located in Melbourne on the Yarra river in South Wharf. It also includes the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and is called MCEC. It is easily accessed by all transportation in the Melbourne area. It hosts conferences, conventions, seminars, meetings, galas, and more.

The Melbourne Convention Centre has 32 meeting rooms and a large banquet room. AV and communications technology is built into rooms for the latest in updated conferencing, and some rooms have satellite control for smart lectern capability. It allows organizers and speakers to manage conferences themselves.

The meeting rooms go from small to large as well as the large banquet styled room. They interconnect with other rooms to form spaces that are almost the same. The plenary can support a full theatrical production with every detail and need accounted for.

The plenary is also moveable, with walls that can be divided to form three other theaters. Inside the exhibition centre is a 493 seat auditorium, and it is the only event venue that has been awarded Green Globe accreditations as well as WasteWise awards. Green building is an important aspect for the convention centre.

The Melbourne Convention Centre has the largest pillarless floor space in the Southernmost part of the world, with it measuring a huge 30,000 metres. It was designed by Denton Corker Marshall and includes its famous razor entrance. An entrance foyer can accomodate 8,400 guests, with views of the river seen through the glass walls.

The Convention Centre is the first convention centre in the world to be awarded the Six Star Green Star award, an award given out by the Green Building Council of Melbourne, for its sustainable design. The building features displacement ventilation, which provides a good air flow while using less energy, and a glass fa?ade that allows natural warm light to shine in.

Energy efficient lighting and a black wastewater treatment building collects wastewater to recycle. Fixtures are also water efficient, using a chemical system for environmental compatibility. Fresh air is controlled through carbon dioxide monitoring and carpets, paints and sealants are low in Volatile Organic Compounds to help air quality. Timber from the Forest Stewardship Council is used as well as sustainable furnishings.

A full on catering kitchen is also provided for guests planning an event. 1,500 guests fit into the banquet room, which can also be separated into two rooms. Produce is bought strictly through local farmers and only the best ingredients used in meal planning. Wines are bought from Victorian vineyards and small boutiques. Each menu is carefully planned, and tastings are also available for clients.

Melbourne is a lovely setting for a conference. It is an easy going and friendly city, with temperate weather and low crime. The Melbourne airport flies hundreds of international and a thousand domestic routes in every week.

The Melbourne Convention Centre is a marvel of technology, environmental sustainability, and function, able to serve guests with their every need regardless of the event, big or small. It is unmatched in its versatility and compatibility.
